Mr. Chan's practice includes
prosecuting US and international patent applications, counseling technology licensing and transactions,
drafting non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and supporting patent litigation.
Mr. Chan's fields of technical expertise include software, internet applications, computer networks, digital signal processing, electronic design automation software, digital and analog circuits, semiconductor processing and equipment, and communications. His present and former clients include Qualcomm, Proplus Design Solutions, Apple, Yahoo!, HP, Sharp, Advantest, Cadence, Marvell, Ubiquiti Networks, and SecuGen Corporation. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Chan was a founding partner of a patent boutique. Prior to that, Mr. Chan was an Of Counsel with Morrison & Foerster LLP and an associate with Pennie Edmonds LLP.
Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Chan worked
12 years in the computer industry. He has held research and development engineer
positions with IBM and Sun Microsystems Inc. (now Oracle Corporation); and he has held
engineering management positions with Apple Computer and Microsoft Corporation. Mr. Chan is
an inventor of five US patents and has published three articles in IEEE international
conferences.
Mr. Chan is registered to practice before the USPTO and
is a member of the California Bar. He is also member of the
American Bar Association (ABA), Silicon Valley Intellectual
Property Law Association (SVIPLA), and Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
